Azienda Agricola Tomassetti Olive Oil from Le Marche

The Azienda Agricola Tomassetti is a small family run olive oil producer in the eastern Italian region of Le Marche. In 2013 Andrea together with his brother Matteo and father Gino decided to concentrate on promoting his family olive oil under the Olio Tomassetti brand. This included a complete re-vamp of the packaging and labelling of the bottles, increased emphasis on advertising, together with new promotional activities in both Italy and their existing foreign markets. Andrea had already been successful in promoting fine extra virgin olive oils from this part of the Marche region when working for another local co-operative, this included promoting and then exporting olive oil to Australia, Japan, Canada, Germany and the UK.

The olive groves of the Azienda Agricola Tomassetti are set in the beautiful rolling countryside near the pretty Marche villages of Scapezzano and Roncitelli which are located just a few kilometres inland from the Adriatic coast. This part of central Italy is still unspoilt and relatively unknown to foreign visitors, it has a long coastline as well as numerous pretty and historic hilltop villages and to the wst there are the stunning Sibillini mountains. The Tomassetti family prides itself with the care they take during all parts of the production of their superb extra virgin olive oils, all the way through from the care taken when pruning of their trees, to the picking and harvesting of their olives and finally to the production of the finished oil at the Frantoio or mill.

There are currently two excellent extra virgin olive oils produced by Azienda Agricola Tomassetti, a blended extra virgin olive oil and also a mono varietal or single variety Raggia extra virgin olive oil. Both these oils are produced from olives grown on the family’s olive groves near the Adriatic resort town of Senigallia in central Le Marche, the blend is made up of local indigenous olive varieties and the single variety Raggia is an olive which thrives in salty air and only grows well near the coast. The oils are typical of the high quality of olive oils produced in the Marche region, not too spicy and hot, but having a freshness and intense aroma of fresh grass on the nose and the Raggia also has hints of walnuts and hazelnuts on the palate. Both olive oils are now produced by organic methods of horticulture and agriculture but it will be several years before they can obtain the trusted organic certification. Also production of both olive oils in small quantities but the family have planted many new trees and increased production from these olive groves should start in a few years.

Olivaverde is pleased to be working closely with the Tomassetti family and co-operating with them on the promotion of Olio Tomassetti in the UK and also in other parts of the world. We hold events and tastings in London, Norwich, Cambridge and Oxford which always prove popular with consumers and are now also working on plans to develop a new olive oil school in the Adriatic coastal town of Senigallia and in other parts of the Marche region and also central Italy.
